GDPR fines spur growth of data privacy startups

Privacy data startups are hoping to capitalize on the growing demand for privacy tools, especially after two substantial fines were imposed on tech companies for violating the EU General Data Protection Regulation earlier this month, VentureBeat reports. The report takes a look at five startups that have raised funding to provide a number of data privacy, protection and compliance products. The companies include InCountry, a “data residency-as-a-service” platform; OneTrust, a data privacy management compliance company that raised $200 million at $1.3 billion valuation in its first round of funding; TrustArc, which helps companies monitor regulation risks and identifies regulatory framework gaps; Privitar, which helps companies instill privacy protection into data projects; and BigID, which uses machine learning to teach companies how to protect customer and employee data.
