EU Parliament releases study on relationship between blockchains, GDPR

The European Parliamentary Research Service has published a report analyzing the relationship between blockchain technologies and the EU General Data Protection Regulation. The study reveals the friction between the technology and law, specifically pointing to contrasts with the defined role of a data controller and the deletion of data. Additionally, the study showed blockchains have the ability to help achieve GDPR objectives. EPRS also published policy options that could help align blockchains and the GDPR, including measures related to regulatory guidance, code of conduct and certification mechanism support and research funding.
