DPC commissioner: Budget allocation doesn’t meet GDPR ‘complexities’

Ireland’s Data Protection Commission received less than a third of the additional funding it sought for 2020, a budget proposal that reflected a year of  “experience of regulating under the [EU] General Data Protection Regulation,” The Irish Times reports. Commissioner Helen Dixon said the DPC requested an additional 5.9 million euros due to the “increased volumes and complexities” involved with the introduction of the GDPR and expressed disappointment at the additional 1.6 million euros the commission will receive. The funding decision comes just months after the DPC ruled it was unlawful for the state to keep data on more than 3 million people who have a Public Services Card.
